Wheelchair and chair yoga for seniors

I LOVE yoga days!  I always feel better and happier after our weekly yoga class.
— Nursing Facility Resident

Yoga has been shown to help improve respiratory and cardiovascular function, relieve anxiety and depression, and ease pain making it a powerful complimentary wellness activity for seniors living in assisted living, nursing or skilled-care facilities.

Classes held in a nursing facility don’t resemble the type of class you would find in a studio. Each class can be adapted to suit a multitude of diverse abilities and ailments. Participants stay seated in their wheelchairs or chairs, move slowly and focus on deeper breaths, if accessible. We make small movements in our joints for mobility and try to compliment resident physical and occupational therapy with light strengthening and stretching. Most importantly, we laugh, tell stories, build community and have fun.
